How to use a credit card:
When you go shopping and have successfully chosen the items
you wish to purchase, you need to approach the counter of the store. At the
counter the shop attendant will total up your items and tell you how much
it all comes to. To pay by credit card you simply have to hand your card to
the shop attendant or place your card in one of the many new credit card reading
devices in use.
If you handed your card to the attendant, they will probably
swipe your credit card through an electronic device and await authorisation
for your credit card issuer. In most cases this is also done electronically
and takes a few seconds.
A receipt will then be printed oout of the till and the attendant
will hand it to you to sign. Your signature must match that on the reverse
of your credit card for the sale to proceed.
Once this has taken place the attendant will return your credit
card to you with a receipt and all of your goods neatly placed in a bag. In
some cases you may need to place them in a bag yourself.
If you have inserted your card into a credit card reading device
you will need to wait a few seconds before the machine requests you type in
your 'PIN' number. Do this disreetly because you do not want anybody to know
what your 'PIN' number is or they could use your credit card if they got hold
of it.
Once again the machine then awaits authorisation before printing
out your receipt. you do not have to sign anything as providing your credit
card 'PIN' is proof of identity.
You will then be prompted by the machine to remove your credit
card from the slot.
You will then be able to take your purchases out of the store
and make sure before you leave to put your credit card in a safe place.
