with the idea of taking control of your personal finances. It takes more than

Pull out a sheet of paper. Divide it in
half - one side for "PROS," the other for "CONS."
On the PRO side, write all the
words that represent the good things money can provide. You'll find that you
quickly exhaust the material possessions: the cars, houses, jewels, and other
superficial trappings of wealth. Some interesting and beautiful words will
begin to appear. Words like: Peace of Mind. Happiness. Confidence. Relief
from Stress. Health. Security. Safety. Freedom.
Now go to the CON side. You may be thinking
- what reasons could I possibly have for not being rich? But think again.
Use your imagination. Create an image of a rich person. Is it a totally positive
image? Or do words like these come to mind: Shallow. Self-absorbed. Stressed.
Frantic. Greedy. Worried. Pressured. Pretentious. Snobbish.
Your list of PROS and CONS reveals
a lot - not about people who are rich, but about you. Do you have a lot of
negative assumptions about wealth? Do you believe that becoming rich will
require you to live in a constant state of worry, pressure, or anxiety over
money, or that you will need to become someone who is greedy, ruthless, and
superficial?
If you really study your list
of CONS, most of them actually describe the life you live right now - a life
of pressure, anxiety, and worry. Compare that to the list of PROS. Wouldn't
you like to turn anxiety into security, worry into peace of mind, and greed
into generosity? Which side do you really want?
If you actually want to become
financially independent eliminate that list of CONS and replace them with
PROS. It is the stepping stone to wealth and becoming as rich as you want
to be.
